Oh, and someone cut down, not just one but TWO of my favorite neighborhood trees today while I was gone. They were there when I left this morning, gone when I got back this evening. Not cut back – cut down! These were the bearers of my favorite springtime blossoms – DAMN!
Our Public Transportation Department doesn’t believe in wasting money on silliness like shock absorbers, insulation or comfortable seating. On a good day, riding our bus system is like riding a covered wagon pop can style. My last connection of the day didn’t even come close to being one of the good days. Either the bus driver was in a FOUL MOOD, or he’d been absent the day they covered “SMOOTH RIDE” during driver training. His approach to driving was STOOOOMP on gas launching into high speed take-off and STOMP on brakes causing dislocation of necks! I’d barely put my behind to the bench when STOMP! We lunged forward, my phone slid off my lap and I was thrown off balance. I recovered my phone and righted myself just in time for him to hit the next stop - STOMP! I slammed into the bar on my other side, this time losing my backpack to the natural forces in play. I looked around, passengers were being tossed around like the jerk mobile ride at an amusement park, eyes wide, knuckles white and wrapped tightly around anything they were able to get a hold of. No one was breathing. No one was texting, gaming or listening to Ipods. This was a FULL ALERT, THREE ALARM situation! I miss my car. In the meantime, maybe I better consider a helmet for bus travel.
