Piper and I are both shifting into new phases of our lives, mmmm . . . . . . . so far neither of us are going about it very gracefully or eagerly. Pip is my last child at home - and don't ANYONE say "empty-nester" to me please. Like I said, I'm not shifting gracefully. We haven't had time to really talk about all the changes, but the air between is certainly charged with a mish-mosh of feelings and anxiety. Her eyes ask so many questions and since her emotions are near the surface too, her eyes reveal her fears and uncertainties. My eyes? My eyes are either crossed, randomly rambling or leaking as Buntah likes to call it. Piper tried her cap and gown on a few nights ago, and yep, Ol' Mom lost it. Wait! No! Make that Young Sexy Mom lost it! See! See! See what I mean?! I'm a mess (head shake side to side). I think I'll just have to stumble through this next 10 days, collapse at the end and sort the mess out the following week. So many changes and so soon. I generally like to think myself an intelligent and aware person, but honestly, I thought THIS DAY - her graduation day was always going to be years away. Adding to the anxiety for both of us - Ginger is no longer here to comfort us with her loving and gentle ways. Ohhhhhh how we miss her. Leaky eyes? Oh yeah, leaky eyes. I miss Ginger so much.
I always have something to write on with me so I take notes when anything of interest crosses my path or my brain. Can you believe I've misplaced it?! I will say this, I've been enjoying my rides to work. A few weeks ago, as I came to a stop at an intersection, a nice shiny - I mean SHINY - bright red/maroon, Corvette rumbled into place beside me. The driver was a show off, tapping the gas pedal to hear the engine roar, vrrrrooooom, vaaarrooooom! The instant the light changed, the driver of the Corvette floored it, bolting into the intersection - beating everyone else of course. Well, I got a goooood look at the driver as they flew by, it was not a man, not an even older man who finally got the car of his dreams! And it wasn't a young hot rod female either - it was a LITTLE OLD LADY!! Skin withered, wrinkled and shrunk to beat Hell - but by God she was smiling!! I've seen her several times now. Every time I see her, she's smiling! Oh she never looks over to exchange a friendly nod, she's too cool for that. And that's alright by me, I enjoy her spirit.
Then today I saw something I'm still shaking my head over. There was a bit of excitement going on at the neighbors house so Tad and I went to investigate - he likes to be up on what's doing in his hood. Two grandsons of the elderly lady next door were dragging a giant box out of the back of a truck. We watched with great interest as the parts of a brand new red and black lawn mower were removed from the box and the machine was assembled. Ok, so it was a lawnmower - BUT not just any lawnmower. This one was electric! The boys produced a long cord, plugged it into the side of the machine then plugged the other end into a wall outlet in the garage! WHAT!!??! This was a first for me! I've seen electric cars, even driven one, and I've seen electric cars plugged in at the "charging station" at the pharmacy, but I've never seen the likes of this!! Very cool! We were hoping to catch it in action, you know, wanted to listen to it and see if it rumbled and growled like it's gas guzzeling predecessors, but they weren't going to use it right away. The one grandson would be coming back tomorrow to do the job for granny. I will have to miss out but since this is jut the beginning of summer I am hopeful I'll get to hear it at least once!
