Snow White and The Huntsman
Two nights ago, Pip and I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman. We're big Charlize Therone and Chris Hemsworth fans. I have to say though, I'm not a big fan of these old classic fairy tales being re-worked for current TV or modern screen. Enchanted? Too much, just waaaayyy too much. Once Upon A Time on TV? I'd rather be poked in the eye! There's even another re-making of Snow White coming out on big screen this year. It looks ridiculously cheesy too, no interest. But this version, the one we saw two nights ago, Charlize Therone as the evil queen. I wanted to see that. If anyone could do really good evil, it's her. She did NOT disappoint. Ohhhh, she is good at being bad!! Chris Hemsworth didn't disappoint either. Actually all he has to do is open his mouth and let his Aussie flow out and my daughter melts into little droplets of goo. So, yeah, he was a hit too. As for the film overall? Well, it won't make my top ten, probably not even my top twenty list but still it was enjoyable - once. Pip could see it over and over. Once on big screen was good for me though. I really did appreciate the fact the makers didn't keep to a fairy tale feel. As a matter of fact, when the seven dwarves were brought into play, I didn't connect them with the classic fairy tale until Pip started trying to figure out which one was supposed to be Grumpy, Doc, Dopey and so forth. Then I went, "Oh yeah, this is the remake of the fairy tale." I was a little disappointed with their handling of Kristen Stewart. I was hoping to see more real acting on her part. You know, be more expressive, show something other than a monotone, half confused gaze. Nope. Will have to hope for the best on her next film I guess. Will someone, somewhere, please expect more from this girl?! The issue with the evil queen is a universal issue with women everywhere - what becomes of a woman when her beauty fades? We all know. We've seen it. That's why we fear and fight it so. I think every woman can relate, to a fair degree, the Queen's take on this. See the movie, they clearly illustrate her thinking on the men to women relationships. Not that I agree with it one hundred percent, but there's enough truth behind it to make a strong case. Granted, you won't find me eating the hearts of innocents to save my youth. But hey, you will find me in pursuit of keeping it as long as possible. The graphics and special effects were done well, I always like that. I like a good ending, and wasn't necessarily disappointed in this one, but felt it left a bit to be desired. Not sorry I went to see it, but don't think I'd go out of my way to see it again.
