Mom was very solemn when she came home this evening. She told Piper they had to talk about Ginger. From the look on Pip's face I could tell it wouldn't be good. They sat together on the couch. Mom told Pip she'd talked to Ginger's doctor today about her odd behavior of late. She said the doctor suggested Ginger may have something called the early stages of "doggy dementia". Then they were both really quiet. Mom eyes were leaking, bad. Piper laid her head against Moms shoulder and her eyes started leaking - and they didn't stop. Neither of them. They sat there on the couch together leaking and leaking, a pile of tissues growing steadily between them. I'd never seen Pip cry before. Watching the two of them made me feel very sad. Mom said there might be medicine they could give Ginger to help her but she has to have a bunch of tests first. Mom says they're pretty expensive and doesn't know where she's going to get that kind of money. The solution seems simple to me. Ginger just has to give back the doggy dementia from wherever she got it from. Wouldn't that work? They told lots of stories about Ginger. They really, really love her. Ginger didn't seem to understand what they were saying (I don't really get it either) but she knew they were hurting. She climbed up on the couch and sat with them to help them feel better. I thought that was the perfect thing to do.
