ONE YEAR! I’ve been living my Humans, My Dog, MY FAMILY for one year today! Wow. Technically, it’s not the day I was very first born. But Pip says it’s like a re-birth so we can call it a birthday if we want. I've never had a birthday before, so I do want to call it that. We celebrated tonight. No one has ever done anything in honor of, or celebrated me before. I like this custom. They even gave me a present; a funny little wind-up frog. He swims herky jerky like when he's in the water. He can't dive and hold his breath or blow bubbles with his nose like me, but it's fun to chase him around. And he doesn't eat anything, I like that part too. At the end of the day, all of us sat cozy like on Mom's bed and talked about me, how cute I am, how much fun I am, how much they love me and having me here and the silly things I do. And then I did something really silly. Mom was holding a plate, I hopped up onto it and landed right in the middle of her strawberry cheesecake with whipped cream - SPLAT! Just like that and I'm covered in cream! ICK! I got another bath - whew!
You know, I've been thinking, Before Mom found me I was hungry and afraid. I had to hide a lot. The wild can be a hard cruel place. All I ever had time to think about was keeping safe and finding food. Now, I live in comfort and safety. I have three houses – a penthouse, a townhouse and a mobile home – each with a nice water dish for me to soak in – with CLEAN fresh water. I have stones and logs to hide in, mushrooms to climb on and sit under, Dorky Fred (who is comforting in a weird sort of way), and plants just like outside. I get to listen to music every day, I never knew what music was before! Now I even have my own Nature station on Pandora! I get to swim in Moms bathtub twice a week just for fun in deep clear water, I have regular plentiful meals. My Humans even wash my worms off for me so I don’t get a mouth full of dirt! My townhouse is by a window so I can see outside, I have my own sun lamp and Mom takes me out to smell her pretty flowers. And I’m not alone anymore, I have people who talk to me. They tell me how happy they are that I’m here. They tell me how adorable I am. They are gentle with me and think I’m really cool. They hold me everyday and let me walk around on them. They let me read with them and watch movies with them. Mom has even let me nap with her a few times. They all teach me stuff, even Ginger. It’s even nice to have her around, she helps me understand my Humans. I never knew what it was like to be loved and wanted. Now I know. I’m glad they decided to keep me. I'm one lucky Toad.
